Q Christian Fellowship Breakout Session – The Lord Is Near: Exploring Contemplative Spirituality as LGBTQ+ Christians
January 21 @ 1:45 pm - 2:45 pm

Why is it sometimes so difficult to feel God’s presence? We want God to show up, to lead and guide us into the future. But what if God is already here? What if God has always been right here? What if it’s less about searching for God and more about noticing how present God already is?
Even reading the Bible can be triggering for people against whom the Bible has been used as a weapon. Oftentimes our families and churches have caused great harm with their toxic beliefs and practices. Contemplative spiritual practices can be helpful for those scarred by non-affirming Christian traditions and theology and especially for those who have suffered through so-called conversion therapy.
This workshop will explore ways to practice the presence of God by looking back, looking around and looking within. With stories and actual experiences of practices like Prayer of Examen, Prayer of the Imagination, Lectio Divina and Spiritual Direction, participants will learn about these life-giving, healing ancient paths.
